City of New Orleans Awarded Super Bowl XLVII
The National Football League announced that New Orleans will host Super Bowl XLVII in 2013, once again showing that New Orleans is one of the premier destinations for major sporting events. Following the 2008 NBA All-Star Game and the 2008 BCS Champtionship, and right on the heels of the 2012 NCAA Men's Final Four, this will be the 10th time New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl, tying with South Florida as the most selected locations. The Super Bowl will be followed directly by the 2013 Women's Final Four in April. The New Orleans Saints recently reached an agreement with the State of Louisiana on a new long-term lease which includes a number of facility improvements in addition to the creation of a Sports and Entertainment District around the Dome.
The Roosevelt New Orleans to Welcome First Guests in Nearly a Half Century
On Thursday, June 25, 2009, The Roosevelt New Orleans will open the doors on its $145-million historic restoration. The hotel boasts 504 rooms, of which 135 are luxury suites adorned with the names of celebrities who once visited — the likes of Frank Sinatra and Huey Long were among the regular visitors to the Roosevelt and the Blue Room. The Blue Room has also been restored to its previous splendor, including The Sazerac cocktail and Romos Gin Fizz, both invented in New Orleans and made popular worldwide by The Roosevelt. The hotel also features nearly 60,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including three spectacular ballrooms and 23 distinctive meeting and event rooms.
Major Disney Exhibition Coming to New Orleans in November
From November 15, 2009 - March 14, 2010, the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) will present Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio, a major exhibition featuring more than 600 original artworks that shaped legendary animated features including Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. The exhibition will also include artowrk from The Princess and The Frog, an animated comedy set in New Orleans due for release at Christmas 2009.
